Written Assignment: Career

Freelance Photographer
There are countless careers in photography that can be pursued, one of them being freelance photography. From Ansel Adams to Edward Steichen, fine art photographers allow the public to see the world through the camera's lens. People drawn towards aesthetic detail and focused artistic vision can find themselves being called to become a fine art photographer.

These photographers sell their work to individuals, art galleries, community institutions, or anywhere else they choose. They work on a freelance basis or by commission, and are able to enjoy more creative freedom than freelance and staff photographers. However, this means that they must be extremely self-motivated, passionate, and dedicated to their work. Their work consists of high quality, original photographs that are able to convey moods, emotions, ideas, and themes that characterize them as works of fine art. The job is set in a fast-paced, social environment that tests the photographer's sense of timing and perception.

Freelance photographers must already have mastered the photography fundamentals such as lighting, composition, and exposure among other basics. These abilities are gained with an accredited photography school degree. A fine art photographer is able to create a unique style that sets them apart from the crowd. Additionally, they must have an understanding of business and marketing skills because photographers must be able to promote themselves effectively in order to succeed along with their fellow artists. Now with the age of the internet becoming popular, skills in web design and online marketing can also be useful.
